Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park & Surrounding Areas Tours

Kgalagadi Trans Frontier Park covers an area of 37 000 square km park, which is one of the largest conservation areas in the world and one of the last truly unspoilt ecosystems.

Endemic game such as gemsbok, springbok, eland, giraffe, blue wildebeest and red hartebeest roam the sparsely vegetated red sand dunes and the dry river valleys of the Nossob and Auob where a variety of acacia species thrive.

The Park is well known for good sightings of lion, leopard and cheetah and spotted - and brown hyena are common residents. Because of an abundance of prey in the form of mice, whistling rats, birds and insects, smaller predators thrive in the park. The park is home to caracal, honey badger, black-backed jackal, bat-eared fox, cape fox, African wildcat, mongoose and the ever-popular suricate (meerkat).

Kgalagadi is a bird watcher’s paradise with more than 300 species recorded including at least 20 larger raptor species. The world’s heaviest flying bird, the Kori bustard and the stately secretary bird patrol the riverbeds while the noisy northern black korhaan rule in the dunes.
Kgalagadi offers various accommodation options ranging from exclusive Wilderness Camps to the traditional camps with good quality chalet accommodation and from well equipped campsites to camping on 4x4 trails in remote areas with little or no facilities A visit to Kgalagadi can be combined with a visit to surrounding areas including Augrabies Falls National Park and Mokala National Park. These unique ecosystems are better to be experienced with a personalized and knowledgeable guide, who can bring out the best these areas have to offer.

7 Day+ Kalahari Lion & Other Predators Tour (See Special Tours)

Tour 59: 7 Day+ Kalahari Lion & Other Predators Tour (See Special Tours)
On this tour the emphasis is on finding the magnificent Kalahari Lions and other predators such as leopard, cheetah, (Kgalagadi is one of the better natural parks to see these two species), spotted and brown hyena, honey badger, African wild cat, the rare caracal and the ever popular meerkat (suricate). The camps used on this tour are not always the most equipped camps, but give one the opportunity to overnight where these magnificent beasts operate.

Patience, endurance and good luck is still needed sometimes to find the Kalahari lions. That makes the reward so much better. Early departures on game drives in the mornings and staying out as late as possible in the late afternoons increase the chances of spotting these impressive creatures. During the warmer to hot months from September to April, the changes increase to see these big cats, due to the fact that they visit waterholes more often, which are all close to game drive routes, Malaria free area.

Accommodation: Chalet and camping or just camping.

4 Day & 10 Day Kalahari Meerkat (Suricate)Tour (See Special Tours)
Tour 61: 4 Day & 10 Day  Kalahari Meerkat (Suricate)Tour (See Special Tours)
On these tours the emphasis is on finding meerkat (suricate) in their natural habitat in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Kalahari. In areas near Twee Rivieren the meerkat are more used to vehicles and one can get at times very close to them. In other areas, especially on the pans in the wilderness areas in Botswana, the meerkat are a bit more skittish, but due to the open pans one gets a good view of them.

The 04 Day Tour offers clients the opportunity to stay in the Twee Rivieren area and it also offers good chalet accommodation for clients who prefer good comfortable accommodation. The 10-Day Tour offers clients the opportunity to see meerkat in wilderness areas in Botswana and in the Twee Rivieren area. The Botswana side has  only basic camping facilities. Malaria free area.
