DETAILED ITINERARY
PRE-TOUR – 07 Sep – South Africa – Letlhakeng (Botswana)
Different routes can be taken from South Africa to Letlhakeng north of the Trans-Kalahari Highway in Botswana. Alternative overnight spots are Gaberone or Kang.

DAY 01 – 08 Sep – Letlhakeng – Khutse Game Reserve
Meet at Letlhakeng Depart to Khutse Game Reserve. Khutse is sharing a boundary with the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to the north. Water is pumped to artificial waterholes at Moreswa and Molose to improve game-viewing throughout the year.
Animals commonly sighted include springbok, gemsbok, giraffe, wildebeest, hartebeest, kudu, black-backed jackal, steenbok, duiker, and the accompanying predators, such as lion, leopard, cheetah, smaller cats, and the endangered brown hyena.
Afternoon game drive
Overnight: Camping at Molose Pan (Basic ablution facilities. Salt water available)
Meals: B, L & D (Full board on all days) or (Self-catering on all days). See RATES
DAY 02 – 09 Sep – Khutse Game Reserve
Short morning and afternoon game drives. Spend time at Molose Waterhole.
Overnight: Camping at Molose Pan
DAY 03 – 10 Sep – Khutse – Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Enter Central Kalahari Game Reserve , which covers 51 800 square km.
The Central Kalahari is a place where you find your soul, where the modern world recedes and you get in touch with the earth, the sky and the space. Herbivores to be seen are Giraffe, Gemsbok, Kudu, Wildebeest, Springbok, Tsessebe and Steenbok. Elephants have lately been crossing from the north into Central Kalahari during the rainy season due to high densities of elephant in the north. The most common predators are Lion, Brown Hyena, Cheetah, Leopard, Wild dog and African Wild Cat. Many bird species can be seen, including bird of prey.
Continue on a long drive on the excess trail to Xaka, a wilderness campsite with no facilities.
Overnight: Camping at Xaka Campsite. (No facilities. No water)
DAY 04 – 11 Sep – Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Depart to Xade. Visit Xade Waterhole where elephant come to drink. Continue to Piper Pan. Lion are often seen at Piper Pan Waterhole
Overnight: Camping at Piper Pan (Basic facilities. No water)
DAY 05 – 12 Sep – Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Continue to Deception Valley. Visit Letihahau Waterhole, the only waterhole in a very large area. Continue along Deception Valley and Deception Pan to campground.
Overnight: Camping at Deception Valley (Basic facilities. No water)
DAY 06 – 13 Sep – Central Kalahari Game Reserve
Game drive to Sunday Pan Waterhole. Afternoon game drive in Deception Valley.
Overnight: Camping at Deception Valley
DAY 07 – 14 Sep – Central Kalahari- Makgadigadi Pans National Park
Depart via Matswere Gate to Rakops. Continue to Khumaga Camp Ground on the banks of the Boteti River in Makgadigadi Pans National Park. There are permanent pools in the riverbed.
The park is home to elephants, white rhinos and hippos. Giraffe, impala and kudu are common along the river bank. Huge numbers of zebra migrate from the Makgadigadi Pans to the Boteti River during the dry season. This is the second largest game migration on the African Continent. The dry Boteti River is known for lion and spotted hyena activities during the night.

DAY 08 – 15 Sep – Makgadigadi Pans National Park
Morning and afternoon game drives along the banks of the Boteti River and adjacent areas

DAY 09 – 16 Sep – Makgadigadi Pans National Park
Morning and afternoon game drives along the banks of the Boteti River and adjacent areas
Overnight: Camping at Khumaga
DAY 10 – 17 Sep – Makgadigadi Pans National Park – Nxai Pan National Park
Morning game drive along the banks of the Boteti River
Continue to nearby Nxai Pan National Park. Nxai Pan consists of a combination of dry pans, grassland, thick bush and clumps of mopane, acacia and baobab trees. Elephant, giraffe, kudu, wildebeest, hartebeest, springbok, impala, gemsbok and zebra are common to see. Spotting lions is general and cheetahs are seen very often too.
Enter at Nxai Pan Gate and continue north on a very sandy road. Make a detour via Baine’s Baobabs. Continue to Nxai Pan Campground. Afternoon game drive. Visit the waterhole, which is the only waterhole in the dry season, in a huge area. The waterhole is known for spectacular sunset photography with elephant and other species silhouetted against the setting sun.

DAY 11 – 18 Sep – Makgadigadi Pans National Park – Nxai Pan National Park
Morning and afternoon game drives.
Overnight: Camping at Nxai Pan Campground
DAY 12 – 19 Sep – Departure (Maun)
Morning game drive. Exit the park. Depart home or continue to Maun on 12 Day Northern Botswana Tour
