Tour 26: 3 Day Riemvasmaak 4×4 Tour

DAY 01 Upington – Riemvasmaak

Depart from Upington via the Keimoes-Kakamas gravel road, passing through a quiver tree forest, to Riemvasmaak. This spectacular mountain desert wilderness, with its towering granite canyons, covers 75 000 ha and is owned and run by the community of Riemvasmakers. It was one of the first land restitution projects in South Africa. The rugged rocky scenery seems as if it is from another planet. It is a wilderness born from volcanic activity millions of years ago, but with a beauty that takes on spiritual proportions. We camp near the hot spring where one can relax in the baths, with the water temperature a constant 32 Celcius, dwarfed by 80 m high cliff walls.

DAY 02 Riemvasmaak 4×4 trail

Explore Riemvasmaak on 4×4 trails and hikes. Return to the camp.

DAY 3 Riemvasmaak – Upington

Morning walk. Relax in the hot Spring baths. Depart to Upington. Stop at Keimoes for wine tasting at the second largest cooperative wine cellar in the world, the Orange River Wine Cellar. Visit Tierberg Nature Reserve in Keimoes, from where one has a beautiful view of the lush green Orange River Valley. Arrive in Upington during the afternoon.
